KDK-HARMAN RECEIVES 2010 OUTSTANDING PHILANTHROPIC AWARD

Recognized for High-Engagement and Innovative Approach to Philanthropy
Austin, Texas. –The Greater Austin Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), aimed to facilitate ethical and effective philanthropy in Central Texas, held its annual Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on January 27, 2010. The luncheon and awards ceremony is dedicated to highlight the above-and-beyond contributions of those who give their time, talents and treasure for the betterment of society.
Following the event’s theme, “Good to Greater”, over 1,000 attendees honored the most committed and progressive supporters of the greater Austin community. "Whether they are policy advocates, grassroots level practitioners, partner organizations, or funders who are actively making positive changes that change the world, we want to herald their work, pay tribute to their service and bring even more attention to a field that is growing by leaps and bounds" said Missy Strittmatter, president of Greater Austin Chapter of AFP.
Three organizations nominated Harman for this award including Breakthrough Austin, a current grantee. “Breakthrough has been in partnership with KDK-Harman Foundation for the past two years. In this short time, KDK-Harman Foundation has helped us to build our organizational capacity through the use of the services of their in-house consultant, introduced us to new sources of funding, offered us opportunities for learning, and created opportunities for networking and problem-solving among the nonprofit and grantmaking community” shared Barry Aidman, executive director of Breakthrough.

Aidman further noted, “Only five years old, the KDK-Harman Foundation, through Janet’s vision, has evolved from simply providing funding to grantees, to listening and responding to other ways in which the Foundation can support their grantees, into involving the entire nonprofit sector to work collaboratively for the success of the nonprofit community and the clients we are serving. We are proud to be counted among one of their grantees and grateful to the support they provide Breakthrough.”
