KDK-Harman Grantee Consulting complements the Foundation’s grantmaking and is focused on building upon the capacity of our current grantee partners to execute their missions effectively and efficiently. As defined by Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, organizational effectiveness is ‘the ability of an organization to fulfill its mission through a blend of sound management, strong governance, and a persistent rededication to achieving results’. In this effort, KDK-Harman Consulting is committed to top-quality consulting and support offered to our grantee partners, while upholding the highest ethical standards.

In its third year of existence, KDK-Harman Grantee Consulting continues to reaffirm its commitment to support our grant investments in the areas of capacity building, including board development, leadership and talent development, evaluation assistance, communications/marketing, and fundraising.  This amounts to an accumulation of 22 projects of hands-on support to our grantees over a course of three years.

Additionally in 2010, effort was focused on building upon the credentials of KDK-Harman Grantee Consulting and laying the groundwork for professional accreditation for philanthropic fundraising - Certified Fund Raising Executive – key characteristic nonprofit leaders seek in development practitioners and a professional skill the Foundation looks to support in all of it grantees.

KDK-Harman Consulting provides customized technical assistance to our current grantees in the following areas:

  • Organizational Development
  • Fund Development
  • Volunteer Management
  • Facilitation
  • Communications
  • Research & Data Analysis

As we look forward to the coming years in ways the Foundation can leverage all of its foundation resources and expertise, project support to its grantees will focus on high-leverage, high-impact opportunities and increase opportunities of peer learning activities to encompass a larger percentage of its investment portfolio. Based on requests from our grantee partners, plans are underway in 2011 to address effective strategies for communications and media relations and active engagement in public policy.

Below are a few examples in PDF documents of 2010 consulting projects that tie into the technical assistance areas of service.
