KDK-Harman Foundation endeavors to be an engaged member of the Central Texas community. Through convenings and collaborative events with our grantees, the Foundation seeks an active role as a partner with our grantees without whom our mission cannot be accomplished. In addition to our annual Grantee Appreciation Luncheon—which brings together all of our grantees for interactive learning sessions, networking, and camaraderie—we also seek to engage with our grantees throughout the year by underwriting their participation in a variety of professional development opportunities, technical assistance workshops, and nonprofit sector networking events. Further, the Foundation strives to promote a culture of giving excellence in our community through leadership, high engagement, and innovation with other grantmakers. We seek opportunities to convene groups of funders around various mutual topics of interest. To-date, we have hosted grantmaker learning sessions on teacher quality, college access, program evaluation, and advocacy. We are also active members of the Central Texas Education Funders (CTEF) a group of grantmakers from throughout Texas interested in supporting education. KDK-Harman Foundation considers a rigorous, interactive dialogue with other grantmakers as a critical part of ongoing learning that is necessary to practice excellence in grantmaking. In addition, we are occasionally asked by generous and charitable individuals how to start and operate a foundation. We are very open to sharing our experiences to help others in the field of philanthropy. Equally, we are interested in learning about new ideas in the field of philanthropy with other funders.
