Foundation Announces RFP for Summer Programming Print E-mail

AUSTIN, Texas, Mar. 6, 2009 — KDK-Harman Foundation, an Austin-based family foundation, is seeking proposals from Central Texas nonprofits and public schools that plan to offer academic summer programs between the months of June and August 2009. The Foundation is looking for successful programs that are academically rigorous and benefit primarily low-income students between the grades of elementary and high school. The Foundation is particularly interested in summer programs that utilize proven approaches to combating the “summer slide” and closing the achievement gaps of struggling students.

To be eligible to apply for the award, organizations must meet all of the following criteria:
·         The organization’s primary mission is to break the cycle of poverty through education.
·         Be a 501(c)(3) organization or school.
·         Operate in Central Texas, which we specifically define as Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell, Burnet, and/or Llano counties.
·         The organization is not a current grantee of the Foundation.
 
All applications will be reviewed by the Foundation’s board of directors. The recipient of the award will be selected based on the quality of their program and the extent to which they meet the following criteria:
·         Possess outstanding leadership
·         Planning, budgeting, and operating procedures generate confidence in the organization’s capabilities
·         Project outcomes are well-designed, specific, and reasonable
·         Employs an approach that others could adapt and/or could be replicated
·         Demonstrates collaboration with other organizations
·         Organization has been operating for at least three years
