IN THE COMMUNITY Volunteerism

Volunteering is a meaningful way to get engaged with the Central Texas community; and with over 3,500 nonprofits operating in the Central Texas region alone, there are plenty of opportunities to go around! Our partner grantees are always looking for volunteers from the community to fulfill a variety of needs, whether it be providing services to the clients directly—such as mentoring and tutoring opportunities—or serving in a leadership role on an agency’s board or advisory council. Please contact any of our grantees to learn about their volunteer or leadership opportunities by visiting the list of all of our charitable grants at our Grant History Database.

If you are looking for a more systematized approach to finding a great volunteer opportunity, please visit United Way Capital Area’s Hands On Central Texas website at www.handsoncentraltexas.org. The sole purpose of Hands On Central Texas is to connect people with meaningful, high-quality volunteer experiences.

Another resource that provides you with information about nonprofits in the Central Texas region is www.ilivehereigivehere.org. The I Live Here, I Give Here Campaign works to increase local giving by educating Central Texans about the needs of our community and the organizations working to meet those needs. Their website provides the most complete listing of nonprofits operating in the Central Texas region and divides them into 14 different issue areas. It also includes information on each of the listed agencies’ mission and a link to their homepage. This is a great resource for someone who wants to begin their volunteer search by familiarizing themselves with the issues and the nonprofits working in each field.
